FAQs
-
Are you really a midwife?
Yes. I am a practicing midwife in Southwest Washington State and I also teach Botanical Medicine for Midwives at Bastyr University. While I am a midwife, I may not be your midwife. Make sure you talk to your healthcare provider about any medications or supplements you may be taking.
-
Isn't plant medicine totally safe because it's natural?
There's lots of plant medicine that's very safe, things like chamomile, ginger, or peppermint. But there are also stronger plants that can harm you if you take too much or for too long. It's important to read the label carefully and to reach out with any questions as well as to consult your healthcare provider, especially if you're pregnant.
-
Where do you get your plants?
Most of the plants I use to make medicine are grown in my garden or wildcrafted locally. When I want to use a plant that is more difficult to find or harder to get, I use a select group of suppliers who are known for their sustainable and fair trade practices.
-
Are your products safe for pregnancy?
Most of our products are safe for pregnancy and made to be taken in the childbearing year, however it is always best to carefully read the label and follow the instructions listed there as well as consult with your personal healthcare provider.
-
Is your salve really edible?
Yes. All of the ingredients used in the salves and lotions are edible, but should you and can you are two different things. Beeswax tastes weird and makes your poop funky. Don't eat it.
-
What happens when I book a consultation?
During our one-on-one consultation, we will go over your health history, any allergies, supplements, and/or medications you may be taking as well as your health goals. Together we will find the plants that will work best for you. Included in the consultation is a two ounce bottle of tincture or glyceride. Consultations typically take from 30-45 minutes.
-
Are your products organic?
Mostly. I use certified organic where I can, but I also depend on organically grown and wildcrafted or foraged when the certification is unavailable.
-
My midwife/doctor/health person told me to get something from you do I need a consultation?
No. If your health care provider sent a referral for you, it works sort of like a prescription. They tell me a little bit about you like your heath goals, any allergies and medications you might be taking, and what you're wanting, then I formulate a unique blend for you.
